If im corect, the tunnel has probably been replaced, therefore no vin, the old number is to be cut out of the old tunnel and riveted on the new tunnel, some guys put under the seat, or gastank, or some dont put it back on at all and tell theyre ins. Company to issue a new number.you should have the registration apers, and the vin should be on there, there is also a vin sticker, white in color under the hood, it is behind the clyinders, on the bulkhead, just under and ahead of the steering post. Confirm the registration number with the sticker number. If they dont match.
Oct 28, 2014 - Author Topic: Decoding Arctic Cat VIN (Read 9117 times). Thanks Vintage sleds for this awesome site, and all the helpful posts here. The first digit in the serial number will be the model year, so something like 587654 will.
You mite want to hide the sled, lol. Not sure on the 11 M8 but most of the past tunnell to bulkhead rivets were buck rivets or solid rivets. Tunnell replacements most everyone uses a pop rivet. Even the Arctic Cat parts diagrams replacement rivets are pop rivets and not the same solid rivet that they used at the factory.
They use pop rivets on the newer models now. On the 2012 and up they use self piercing rivets. The 2011 should have a sticker underneath the seat with the model info and serial number.
And there is usually a serial number stamped into the side of the tunnel by the gas tank. Like stated above, If those are both missing they have a sticker on the bulkhead with the serial number on it. This Machine doesnt have any of those.
All it has is the engine serial number which matches the Certificate of origin number for the motor. I have another 2011 M8 sitting right next to it and the same rivets are on both sleds. I dont believe its had a new tunnel put on. I called the guy I bought it from and he swears he never put a new tunnel on it. Very Strange. I am anticipating a real pain in the arse when I try to title it here in Idaho. I have a paper trail from Arctic Cat to Cutlers, and then a build sheet from Cutler to the guy I bought it from.

Arctic cat sells fully assembled tunnel/bulkhead assemblies. So if it was replaced that way it would look very production like.
When we change them we order a VIN stamped assembly which requires us to cut the old VIN and send it to them before they will stamp the new tunnel. They can be ordered without the VIN stamped in them also. People order them that way because they come in faster since you don't have to wait for them to recieve the old VIN piece and verify it. When I register my sleds they never ask to see the sled or prof of vin.
The bank was more concerned about making sure the vin was right than the state last year when I got my new/used sled. ARCTIC CAT BRANDED SIDE-BY-SIDES AND ATVS ARE COMING BACK Passion can change people. Change minds. And in the end, it can take us back to where our family has been all along.
Because Arctic Cat fans and powersports enthusiasts demanded it, the Arctic Cat® name will be returning to ATVs and Side-by-Sides in 2019. With a legacy of innovation, performance and fun, our legendary lineup of ATVs, side-by-sides and snowmobiles are built to take you anywhere you want to go — from carving up mountain snow on a Mountain Cat Alpha One in British Columbia, to flying over the dunes in Glamis in a Wildcat™ XX. And these high-performance vehicles are still made proudly in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. If you are looking for a used ATV for sale, where do you look? I know ebay and craigslist have used ATVs for sales and then sometimes you find local trade publications where they list used ATVs. I was looking online and decided to list out some websites that sell used ATVs.
If you know of any additional websites or sources to look for or buy used ATVs, please post as a comment in this topic. EBay Motors - usually has a good selection of four wheelers, ATVs, and Side by Sides and offer seller protections Craigslist - usually has more local ATVs, but be careful as there are no seller protections ATV Trader - has over 130k ATVs listed by private sellers ATVSoup.com - new and used ATVs for sale WantAdDigest - Shows local listings of ATVs for sale ATV.com - List new and used ATVs for sale When buying a used ATV, make sure you do your research and find out the book value of the ATV, look over the condition of the ATV, and as for verification of ownership. Be careful who you buy from and get the ATV checked out by a professional dealer or repair shop if you are baying a high price. Watch our for VIN numbers that are scraped off, this is usually a sign that the ATV was stolen.
